MONTE GRAPPA (ITALY)

Monte Grappa is NE. of Bessano di Grappa, which is between Trento and Padova.
Mt. Grappa was the scene of heavy fighting and the place where the German / Austro-Hungarian  Piave offensive was stopped in 1917/1918.

The Ossuary was created in 1935 by architect Giovanni Greppi, the sculptures were made by Giannino Castglioni.

The ossuary contains 22.947 burials of which 10.332 are unknown.

Most are casualties of the Austro-Hungarian Piave offensive on June 1918.
